Three day holiday weekends are such a nice break, offering the opportunity to relax, sleep in, and quite possibly explore all that Cocoa Beach has to offer, even if the holiday isn’t one normally considered a travel one, such as Veterans Day held in November. Held every November 11, it doesn’t always fall on the weekend, but that’s ok, it is still a paid day off and we at Happy Palm Stays think the best way to honor the veterans in our lives is by taking vacation days before and after, extending the holiday and enjoying a taste of summer in the fall. This guide to Veterans Day in Cocoa Beach may prove to be the impetus to starting a new family tradition, a Veterans Day vacation in the Sunshine State.
Veterans Day Parade, Starting at the Palm Bay City Hall in Nearby Palm Bay
We can’t tell you how thankful we are that our piece of the world still loves a parade, with nearly every holiday offering a parade to commemorate somewhere within driving distance of Cocoa Beach, and the Veterans Day Parade in Palm Bay is another example of this dedication to parades. Located just 30+ miles away from your Happy Palm Stays holiday haven, the procession starts at 10 AM offering floats, marching bands, and of course, the people of honor, lots and lots of veterans (and active-duty military as well). Ending at Veterans Memorial Park, guests can choose to move on to celebrations a little closer to Cocoa Beach or stay a while and join in the Veterans Day celebration that will follow the parade.
Veterans Day Ceremony and Pass in Review on Merritt Island, Brevard Veterans Memorial Center
With all the contributions the Space Coast has made to the advancement of space exploration we can’t help but feel a little extra proud of our local veterans and the Veterans Day Ceremony held in the shadows of the Kennedy Space Center is one we hold close to our heart. Every year offers a slightly different celebration, with special guests and speakers that reflect on what the holiday means to them, but we can promise the heartwarming ceremony will always make you feel proud to be an American and even prouder of the veterans in your life.
Veterans Day Program at the Melbourne Liberty Bell Memorial Museum, 1601 Oak Street
Honoring the earliest veterans of our nation, the ones who sacrificed so much to earn our country’s independence, the Veterans Day Program at the Melbourne Liberty Bell Memorial Museum promises to be engaging, entertaining, and meaningful to today’s veterans. Held on the Saturday closest to November 11, this ceremony lasts about three hours starting at 9 AM, so if you go to the parade in Palm Bay, you can come back and catch the last part.
Open House at the Warbird Air Museum, 6600 Tico Road in Titusville
If you have never been up close and personal with a fighter jet, Veterans Day weekend offers the opportunity to do just that with an open house at the Warbird Air Museum in nearby Titusville. Offering free admission to veterans, visitors can expect to see flybys, memorabilia, and even radio controlled airplanes, in addition to the exhibits of real planes. Food and drink are available for purchase and it is appreciated if you bring a canned food item to be donated to local food banks.
Free Admission, Free Meals, and Fun Times On Veterans Day in Cocoa Beach
As you might expect, there will be lots of discounts or freebies for any veteran in your traveling party, including free admission to the Brevard Zoo, 8225 N Wickham Road in Melbourne.
